2010 DAP I Final Presentation
National Building Museum
The National Building Museum is proud to present Design Apprenticeship Program I: Building Blocks, the latest in a series of programs in which local youth design and build projects related to a timely theme or topic.
In the National Building Museum’s Fall 2010 Design Apprenticeship Program (DAP), participants gathered each Saturday for
seven weeks to focus on building blocks and how they are used in design
and construction. Through a series of hands-on activities, they first
learned the basics of design and explored various building blocks such
as bricks, tile, cinder blocks, playing cards, and even cookies.
Participants were then divided into teams and challenged to design and
fabricate furniture centering on the building blocks theme
Volunteer design professionals worked closely with participants to help them fine tune their design skills, understand the concepts of sustainability, as well as incorporate aesthetics in the final design.
