The 6th Annual National Sustainable Design Expo is scheduled to take place on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on April 24 - 25, 2010. This event was created to bring together professional scientists, engineers, and business leaders around innovations designed to advance economic growth while reducing environmental impact. The Expo showcases the innovative designs of the P3 student teams addressing alternative energy technologies, collection, purification and distribution of water, agricultural practices to reduce pesticide run-off, new technologies for green buildings and many more approaches to improve society's sustainability.
In addition, the expo provides a forum for the government, non-profit and business community to demonstrate their diverse approaches to sustainability.
The National Sustainable Design Expo featuring EPA's Annual P3 (People, Prosperity, and the Planet) Competition is held annually each April on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Previous Expos have been extremely successful, and this year's is expected to be even better.
Exhibits will be open to the public Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25. By exhibiting the Emerging Green Builder’s (EGB) will have a rare opportunity to interact with other environmentally conscious exhibitors from industry, universities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. EGB will be able to provide outreach information, describing its mission, activities, events, and the benefits of membership at the design expo. It is important that EGB have volunteers at its exhibit that are knowledgeable about the group’s connection to the USGBC-NCR chapter, past and planned activities/events, the mission, and are excited to provide outreach information to potential new members of EGB.
As with any event on the National Mall, we can expect attendance from the general public, visitors from nearby offices, and attendees from:
The General Public
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Other federal agencies
Nonprofit groups
The scientific community
Industry, and Media
Each year, EPA awards grants to teams of university students to research, develop, and design sustainable solutions to environmental challenges around the world. The teams present their projects with posters, models, and, in some cases, full-scale prototypes as they compete for additional funding to further design, develop, and implement their projects.
Participation in the Expo will give EBG and its members a chance to meet the college students who are studying to be future leaders in science, technology, and policy for sustainability from a wide-range of disciplines. This gives EGB a chance to recruit future members and students an opportunity to meet potential future colleagues. EGB will be able to meet and encourage the future stewards of sustainability.
