Natural Talent Design Competition

On Wednesday, June 9, 2010, the National Capital Region (NCR) Emerging Professionals hosted a networking reception to announce and congratulate the local winning entries of the USGBC Natural Talent Design
Competition.

The event was held at the Allsteel Showroom in Washington, DC, and it not only provided the opportunity to meet the participating teams and their designs, but it also featured a wonderful evening of networking with plenty of food,drinks, and an enthusiastic crowd of attendees.

After a thorough evaluation of the designs, the team of high profile judges announced this year’s NCR winners for the student and emerging professional categories. The honorable judges for the competition were Mike Hickok and Yolanda Cole (Principals of Hickok Cole Architects), Don Hoover(Principal of OCULUS Landscape Architecture), and Mark Turner (Founder and President of Greenspur),

The winning projects were:

· Student team: “Synergy” by Michelle Gonzales and Jamel Williams from Howard
University

· Emerging professionals team: “The Eden Street
House” by Marlan Ky, Courtney C. Payne, and J. Everett Schram from Franck and
Lohsen Architects.

All in all, it was a wonderful night celebrating the talent and success of local emerging professionals in the green building industry.
