Event Description

The rooftop garden grows lots of fresh, healthy food for use in Bread for the City's pantries and cooking workshops — and are spaces that foster reflection, learning, and dialog about health and food justice, across lines of class, race, and age.The rooftop garden provides healthy and sustainable foods to residents in Washington, DC who would not normally receive such food. The garden demonstrates how urban agriculture is capable of being done successfully in the District.

The Northwest Center, located at 1525 7th Street NW, we have converted our extensive green roof into the first large-scale roof top agriculture project in the DC region. This is the first growing season for this rooftop garden. Check out the garden's website for more information at: http://www.breadforthecity.org/rooftopgarden/

Volunteer Activities: maintain and irrigate containers growing herbs and vegetables. Volunteers may be able to take home some of bounty too!
